Description:
Abstract:
Rr_av_instream.shp describes the instream habitat of the Alexander Valley Reach of the Russian River. This dataset extends along the mainstem of the river, from the confluence of Big Sulphur Springs to the intersection of the mainstem and the Alexander Valley Bridge.
Purpose:
Data will be used in riparian ecosystem management, planning analysis and impact assessment.  This dataset contains information describing the instream habitat in terms of habitat type, thalweg depth, substrate type, shelter rating, presence of Ludwigia spp. as well as erosional information.
Supplemental Information:
The instream habitat data which this file illustrates was collected between the months of July and August, 1992. This data gathering effort was a component of the Russian River Resource Enhancement and Access Plan's Instream Habitat Inventory.

Dynamic segmentation was performed on the russ-routed streams coverage developed by the California Department of Fish and Game to create a line file of the collected data. Technical and resource assistance and guidance in performing the dynamic segmentation was provided by Colin Brooks of CDFG and the Integrated Hardwood Range Management Program (IHRMP) North Coast Research and Extension Group. Upon completion of the dynamic segmentation, the resulting line work was calibrated using known point locations as calibration points. However, the original data contains a margin of error of up to 10% for the linear footage. The error must be taken into consideration when using this data.

This dataset is intended to be used for characterizing instream habitat parameters in the mainstem of the Russian River, Mendocino County reach. Due to the margin of error present in the data, this dataset is not appropriate for analyses at the parcel scale. The responsibility of the risks associated in regards to the results and representations of using this type of spatial data is understood by the user. In all cases, the user should refer to the associated metadata files or the original source data for accuracy, currentness and appropriate contact information. CRP shall not have any liability to any person or entity with respect to liability, loss or damage caused or alleged to be caused directly or indirectly by information contained in this file.

When used for presentation or analysis, document the original data source paramters.
