The original rr_restoration_lns2 layer was developed as an ESRI .shp file named Restoration_lns as part of the California Habitat Restoration Project Database (CHRPD), developed by the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission for the California Department of Fish and Game. Rr_restoration_lns2.shp was created by Circuit Rider Productions, Inc.(CRP). Rr_restoration_lns2 represents the portion of the CHRPD locations that are within the watershed boundaries of the Russian River basin. This metadata file incorporates information that is specific to this layer as well as information that is available in the original metadata file for the CHRPD locations (restoration_lns.txt). Portions of this metadata file that borrow text from restoration_lns.txt are indicated in quotation marks.

Abstract:

Line features describe the geographic areas where restoration projects were completed through the California Department of Fish and Game's Fisheries Restoration Grants Program (FRGP).

"The California Habitat Restoration Project Database (CHRPD), is a cooperative project involving the California Department of Fish and Game (CDFG), the National Marine Fisheries Service, and the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission. Initiated in 1999, the CHRPD captures and manages data about anadromous habitat restoration projects with an emphasis on detailed project cost data.

The database includes habitat improvement projects, research projects (surveys and studies of streams, roads, watersheds), education projects, and hatchery projects (including trapping, spawning, rearing and releasing salmonids).

"The CHRPD is intended to be a comprehensive repository for anadromous stream restoration projects throughout California. Data is sought from any agencies and organizations that have funded or carried out restoration work in the state."

"This dataset contains all completed projects (for which final reports have been received) funded through the California Department of Fish and Game's Fisheries Restoration Grants Program (FRGP)."

"The shapefile was created by heads-up digitizing. Locations were taken from representations of stream habitat restoration projects marked on maps included in the paper documentation of the projects. Approximately 12% of projects sites (455/3850) could not be placed at specific locations.

Line locations were originally digitized using two different methods. Instream locations were digitized by referencing them directly to the place along the stream in which the work was done. This was accomplished using NCNCR Hydrography Tools and routed 1:100K California hydrography (for questions about the tools and hydrography, contact Eric Haney, Information Services Branch Manager,
Northern California North Coast Region Dept. of Fish and Game, (530) 225-2052, ehaney@dfg.ca.gov). Locations that were not along streams were heads-up digitized. These two different shapefiles were merged into a single line shapefile for the purposes of this data release.

This shapefile must be used in conjunction with rr_restoration_pts1.shp (points) and rr_restoration_plys3.shp (polygons) in order to view the complete set of project locations for the Russian River basin portion of the CHRPD.
