The original NPL_Areas layer was developed as a polygon coverage of National Priority List Superfund Sites, developed by the US Environmental Protection Agency. Rr_npl_areas.shp was created by Circuit Rider Productions, Inc. Rr_npl_areas represents the portion of the NPL superfund site polygon coverage that is within the watershed boundaries of the Russian River basin. This metadata file incorporates information that is specific to this layer as well as information that is available in the original metadata file for the NPL superfund sites (npl_areas). Portions of this metadata file that borrow text from npl_areas are indicated in quotation marks.

"Cautionary Note: A final decision has not been made with regards to the definition of some NPL site boundaries. Boundaries in this coverage may represent a property boundary, plume delineation, contaminated area, or building site."
