The original NPL_Points layer was developed as a coverage named NPL Facility Locations for California, edition version 2, developed by the US Environmental Protection Agency, Linda K. Chambers, 09/2000. Rr_npl_points.shp was created by Circuit Rider Productions, Inc. Rr_npl_points represents the portion of the NPL facility locations for California coverage that is within the watershed boundaries of the Russian River basin. This metadata file incorporates information that is specific to this layer as well as information that is available in the original metadata file for the NPL facility locations for California coverage (npl_points). Portions of this metadata file that borrow text from npl_points are indicated in quotation marks.

Abstract:

"Point coverage of NPL facility locations for the state of California.
NPL (National Priorities List) facilities are hazardous waste
sites that are eligible for extensive long-term cleanup under the
Superfund program. Eligibility is determined by a scoring system called
Hazard Ranking System. Sites with high scores are listed on the NPL.
The majority of the locations are derived from polygon centroids of
digitized site boundaries. The remaining locations were generated
from address matching, digitizing and facility furnished latitude-
longitude. Attributes include NPL status code and NPL facility type
codes."

"This data is specifically designed for use with Arc/Info and related
software. This coverage is useful for general mapping."
