Description:

Abstract: This GIS file was created by Circuit Rider Productions, Inc. for inclusion in the Russian River Watershed GIS (RRGIS). The original source data from which this GIS file was created was contributed to the RRGIS by the Sonoma County Water Agency (SCWA). The Sonoma County Water Agency gathers stream cross section data for the Russian River mainstem on a yearly basis. Comprehensive stream cross sectional information was contributed to the RRGIS for the years 1993 through 2001. Additional cross section data describing conditions as far back as 1990 was at times included in certain files. The contriubted data were in a variety of file formats including .txt , .xls and .dwg. During an advisory meeting with fisheries biologists, it was determined that converting the SCWA cross section data into a GIS formatted file was a high priority for local salmonid recovery planning efforts. As a result, Circuit Rider Productions worked with the original SCWA information to create a series of four ESRI format shape files. The four resulting GIS layers are rr_scwa_xsec.shp, rr_scwa_pts.shp, rr_scwa_98_lines.shp and rr_scwa_99_lines.shp. Of the temporal datasets and the many file formats contributed, only certain files were selected for inclusion into the series of four GIS layers. Files that were included were those that were georeferenced and in .dwg file format, making them readily available for conversion to a GIS format. An indication of the information included in each of the four GIS layers is as follows:

rr_scwa_xsec.shp - Cross section survey lines for Middle Reach and Alexander Valley Reach.
rr_scwa_pts.shp - Point elevation data for Middle Reach and Alexander Valley Reach.
rr_scwa_98_lines.shp - Line features describing 1998 project limits, tree dripline, DEM breaklines, channel and gravel roads for the Middle Reach.
rr_scwa_99_lines.shp - Line features describing 1999 contours, project limits, tree dripline, DEM breaklines, thalweg and unpaved roads for the Middle Reach.

Purpose:

These datasets are intended to be used for mapping and analysis. Potential mapping and analysis scenarios include location mapping, channel assessment, digital elevation modeling, stream profile development and temporal change analysis.
